This huge museum, only a few years old, is great fun for the whole family. It has interactive exhibits, multimedia displays, and two theatres. The museum tells the history of Texas through artefacts (including Neil Armstrong's space suit, a full-size windmill, and a 1940 airplane), as well as through the production of the special effects Texas Spirit Theatre. Three themes, each with its own floor, serve to relate the traditions and history of Texas: land, identity and opportunity. The material is fascinating, and the high-tech presentation guarantees hours of interest. This is a great place to visit for the whole family - kids will love the special effects presentations, and the thrilling feel of the IMAX films. These tend to feature great human endeavours, or fascinating natural history, such as volcanoes and dinosaurs. The special design of the theatre can have you feeling exhilarated, frightened, or even sick to your stomach, as the camera swings around and brings you along with the film. Admission is only $5.00 each for entry, although theatre tickets cost more. The gift shop also has wonderful, intriguing souvenirs. |
